A castle in Angouleme

We are getting settled in with our new hosts in Angouleme (actually we're out in the country outside of Angouleme). They have been very welcoming and although their two boys do not speak English, our kids are having fun playing with them. We just have to keep reminding Evan that they can't understand her when she continues to ask them questions in English (getting louder each time as if they can't hear well).

The highlight of Elliot's day was getting to visit a real French fire station! Dimitri, with whom we are staying, is a fireman, and he was kind enough to give us all a tour of the station. Elliot loved seeing all the different trucks and he even got to sit up in one of them!

We visited a thousand year old castle yesterday! It was not open to tour inside, but we were able to walk around and take a good look outside.

Below is a picture of what used to be the gate to the castle's gardens...after many battles and time, the wall broke down between the castle and the gate, and now the gate belongs to a private residence.

Then we walked down the hill to a beautiful little church...
